An interesting week

Last week during clubs week, which is absolutely crazy, there were soo many clubs, i didnt even get to go through all of them...
Well i joint a few of them.. one the clubs being Kung Fu.. the booth struck my attention with all the red, and i stopped and this guy started telling me about Kung Fu, and although i thought it was violent he told me it was all about discipline, and i should check out the free class, i did, and boy of boy do i feel the pain.. The stretching, i knew i shouldnt have pushed myself that much, but I hate feeling I cant do something...It was a great class and i have decided I want to actually take it up...

My new theme song " Everybody loves Kung Fu fighting"

Also an incredible club i found is something called Enigeers without borders, they do alot of development work, its pretty much the same concept of AIESEC but focusing on development...

Check out one of their projects website makepovertyhistory.ca also check out the videos there, they are really good...

So my weekend is great except for the pains of kung... Yesterday some friends and i went to this huge mall called metrotown and we helped a friend go shopping, her 20 kg limit didnt really help, it was great giving her that makeover, and its kind of funny to see, how clothes can impact the way you look and feel.. and it was great seeing her smile realizing how good she looked...

Well when i got back home, i rushed to get dressed cause i was meeting some other friends to go dancing, we went to this Latin club called the Red Room, I spent most of the night dancing and laughing my head off watching how guys try to get girls attention... Its soo different from Egypt, I cant begin to start..hhehe... its all part of the learning experience..

Untitled!!

My second week here, first week in school, quite bizarre school here, people only take four courses here!! I was initially enrolled in six which is what i would be doing back in my beloved homeland Cairo, but aparently that is absolutely MAD!!

Well i have been on a job hunt, things here are a hell of alot more expensive, had my first interview today i have the next interview part of the interview next week!! Also may get an online job, Im going to be attending a session tomorrow about it...

Sad my camera screen was cracked i sent it in to fix it but it will take 6-8 weeks to fix, how shitty is that!! i hope i get it back before spring, i cant wait to see the leaves change color!!

Had a very eventful weekend, the university invited all international students for a boat ride around the harbor, got to met loads of internationals, it was pretty wild all those nationalities in that boat.. Watching the sunrise from the boat was out of the world, Ill be uploading pictures when i get them!!

The next day some friends and I rented bikes and cycled through Stanley park (check out here http://www.seestanleypark.com/)
It was great the weather was absolutely perfect!! There was also several totem parks, what was great was cycling past the harbor, all those boats, Im dying to go sailing soon!!!

After that we headed down to Granville Island(check out here http://www.downtownvan.com/granvilleisle.htm), we were meant to go see the festival but instead we went to the market which was great!! Had the best lunch i have had since i got here, one of the stalls were selling olives, homus, feta cheese amongst other things, we all bought different dips and fresh baked bread, it was such a mediterrean lunch!!

The next day i went down with my roomate to see UBC, initially cause we wanted a cheap afternoon and she had passes for the botantical garden, we ended up going for a walk around campus, which to my surprise i thought SFU was huge, UBC is gigantic.. We ended walking to the direction of the beach, which was great, cause for the first time in my life i saw

sea otters, actually saw two of them and they were so close to the shore, it was great!!! We ended up walking along the shore cause we wanted to avoid the long path down when we realized we were in a nudey beach, when it hit me that my friend Willa who was studying at UBC had told me about it!! That was quite a surprise, and i wasnt as disgusted as i thought i would be, it was so unattractive when the majority of the people were old men, walking naked or with a shirt on...

Well after our little trip we decided to go through china town on our way home, which was great, saw all these things which reminded me of singapore... All these fruits and spices...
Longan

Rambutan(a.k.a hairy fruit)

Mangosteen

but nothing surprised me more than seeing durian my favorite known to foreigners as the smelly fruit for its distinct smell

China town also had things i had never seen before, like dehydrated lizards which i found out today is used for medicine and is very nutritious or sea snakes, which chinese eat and use also for medical purposes. Need to go down to China town with some chinese..

Cool surprise!! I found out today i have a mentee, and ironically enough he is an AIESECer,hehe what are the chances..

Jornal writing

Some thoughts!!

well im here and its been hell, i cant even begin to tell you, i have traveled ALOT, but i guess knowing illl be here for a long time is much differnt. Last summer i worked on this project called world on wheels and it was a new place for three months, but it was different cause i had a great group supporting me...

I love them

Here im all by myself starting truely from scratch... First week was hectic, i moved three times, long story which didnt help my homesick blues... but now im settled in my final house, im living on campus with three other students, two canadians and a norwegian... its been interesting having to look after myself, and its funny i am actually better when im not at home.. i pay more attention to things i used to take for granted(mama i love you)...

also has been interesting being here, my first choice for an exchange was japan, what a culture experience that would have been, so i wasnt as excited about Canada as it was my second option and i didnt expect that much of a different culture, i assumed it would be like Tv, but i guess i didnt psychological prepare myself, so i had a bit of a shock... and now im getting used to it..

i have met some really nice people, and i love living in nature, like braunwald(where i was this summer) my university is on a mounatin which is called burnaby, its like 40 minutes from Vancouver which doesnt have the mega city feel but it has been great... i get to be alot more independent in walking around, and not having the annoying hissing that follows as i walk down a crowded road in Cairo... but i doubt i could live here more than a couple of years i need my country's energy... its funny everything i learn, i always think how i can help egypt..Braunwald as incredible as it was, left me with more worries, than solutions..

elections took place, what a surprise mubarak again! its sad to know that politics are decided by stronger countries, people know that mubarak son gammal wont be elected although i think he is the most experienced candiate who has good ideas because the US doesnt want him...

well those are my recent thoughts

What i attended of Orientation?
